Varsity Girls Volleyball, Team of the Year

MSD's varsity girls' volleyball team has been named the NDIAA Division 1 Team of the Year. This honor marks the program's 14th overall title and its first since 2021. The team capped off the season with a national championship and an impressive 21-8-2 record, highlighted by championship wins in both the Oriole Classic and Spike Out tournaments. Throughout the season, the team consistently delivered strong performances, averaging 7.1 kills, 6.9 digs, 6.1 assists, and 4.3 aces per set.

Maliyah Coleman, Div. 1 Girls' Volleyball Player of the Year

Maliyah Coleman has been named the 2024 NDIAA Division 1 Girls' Volleyball Player of the Year.

Maliyah was named Most Valuable Player at both the Oriole Classic and Spike Out tournaments and earned Maryland Independent Athletic Conference First-Team All-Tournament and All-Conference honors. Throughout the season, she recorded an impressive 341 kills, averaging 11 per match. She also tallied 135 aces and 162 digs, averaging 4.35 aces and 5.22 digs per match.

Maliyah is the first freshman to be named NDIAA Division 1 Girls' Volleyball Player of the Year in the award's 17-year history.

Leticia Detrow, Girls' Cross Country Runner of the Year

Leticia Detrow has been named the 2024 NDIAA Girls' Cross Country Runner of the Year.

As a sophomore making her debut as a cross country runner, Leticia delivered a series of impressive performances throughout her races. Building on her background in long-distance running during the spring track season—where she was named the 2024 USA Deaf Track & Field/NDIAA Female Track Athlete of the Year—Leticia achieved a standout 5K time of 20:47.5, the fastest recorded among all deaf schools nationwide during the season. Her time also places her among the top 15 runners in Frederick County, across all school sizes. With her impressive time of 20:47.5, Leticia also holds the school record.

One of the highlights of her season was winning first place in both races at the National Deaf XC Championships in Fremont, California. She followed this achievement with a strong performance at the Maryland Private Schools State Championships, where she placed 16th out of 154 runners from small and large schools and earned 7th place among small private schools.

Leticia is the first girls' cross country runner from MSD to be named NDIAA Runner of the Year. She is also the school's second overall NDIAA Runner of the Year honoree, following Crosse Herpin ('20), who earned the title for boys' cross country in 2018.

Congratulations to our student-athletes and coaches!
